Crayons Childcare Centre believes that the most treasured people in life are children. Children deserve the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential within a loving, stimulating and learning environment that fosters acceptance, affection, trust, guidance, education and friendship.
Crayons believes that the current Early Childhood Education practice of learning through play will optimise your child's potential to become an active learner. The play is based on your child's or group interest/s which incorporates a variety of experiences and challenges to practice new skills & master old skills. The experiences provided encourages and develops the child's curiosity, imagination, creativity, self esteem, independence and social skills which are all essential in building character and confidence to take on further challenges to promote progress in their overall development and life. The program is planned by the children and carers and evaluated through observation and assessment of each child's participation and accomplishment/s. The ?uniqueness' of each child and family is recognised and valued. When planning the staff take into account the expectations of the children, parents and community.
Crayons believes that providing a team of staff who compliment and support one another with their range of knowledge, skills, training and experience is essential in maintaining the high standard of care and education reflective of the childcare profession, the children and the families within our service. The children are responded to with: care and sensitivity that promotes respect for themselves and others; guidance as to limits of acceptable behaviour that promotes self-control; and with encouragement for learning and mastering skills.
Crayons believe that teamwork is important in providing a quality service that caters for the needs of the children and parents. Open communication and respect for family values is a basis for fostering a close relationship between the centre staff, families and community. With the parent's support towards the staff and the staff's support toward the parents and community, the child will flourish in all areas of their development and ultimately develop into well-adjusted adults in the community.

WHAT TO EXPECT
During the orientation yourself and the staff will have already discussed the most appropriate method of settling your child into the centre. You are welcome to call the centre at any times throughout the day to find out how your child is coping.
Your child may become upset when separating from you. We understand the difficulty of leaving your child when they are upset. The staff will assist with the separation. We assure you that if your child does not settle, we will contact you and make other arrangements to help your child settle into the centre. Each child settles in their own individual way, therefore we have to find a method that suits them.
All children are encouraged to participate in all the activities that are offered and requested. The wide range of activities provided include art/craft, music and movement, language/literature, construction,
water play, sand play, puzzles, games and outdoor activities. Your child may get dirty from time to time as they learn about their world. We provide protective aprons for all messy and water play. We suggest that you dress your child in old clothes or ?Kindy' clothes.
The centre may look disorganised and casual at times, however, the staff carefully plans and supervise the program. Children learn self-discipline by being able to choose activities. Sharing and co-operating with others is encouraged and promoted by staff. Staff interacts with the children during their play to guide them and extend their knowledge and skills.
Crayons employs trained, competent and caring staff that are experienced in the developmental needs of young children. Activities and routines are planned according to the children. Regular observations are recorded regarding your child's development. An appointment can be made with the Director, or trained staff member if you wish to discuss any aspect of your child's progress or care.
You may see some unfamiliar faces amongst the staff. These would include approved relief workers, childcare or work experience students, special needs workers and/or specialists. These people are approved prior to their visit and are required to follow the centre's regulations, guidelines and policies. Parents are notified either via the Noticeboard, newsletter or note of any visitors at the centre. A staff member supervises all visitors to the centre at all times.

The Crayons team consists of qualified and trained professionals who are experienced in the education and care of young children.
The staff implements an educational program that has been planned with the children to promote progress in each area of their development. The activities, projects and experiences are provided to excite, challenge and educate your child to foster development and progress of skills.
Crayons plays an active role in the community. At times there are specialists, therapists, college students, work experience students and visitors at the centre. These people have all been through an approval process prior to their visit. A staff member supervises them at all times.
